Tips to Prevent an MOT Failure
Don’t let a quick vehicle check stop your vehicle passing its MOT.
Top things to check which regularly cause a failure include –
Are all lights working? Don’t forget to check brake lights, head lights, side lights, number plate light and indicators.
If you spot any that need fixing, just ask our technician to refit before the start of the test.
Vehicles often fail due to suspension issues. Does your car sit right when you view it? A tell-tale visual clue is a low corner.
Our technicians can advise and sort any worries you may have.
The legal minimum is 1.6mm, check you are legal with a tyre depth checker.
Having a look for obvious signs of wear (especially if uneven as you might need a tracking check).
Check all tyres are inflated to the required level for your specific vehicle. A blow out at speed can be very dangerous so please be tyre aware.
Drivers Road View
Many people forget about this serious part of motoring. Do the windscreen wipers work? Do they need replacing? Does the washer bottle need refilling?
A clear view is a must for safe driving. Remove all non-essential things out of the way. Think Sat-navs and phones impairing the view.
Cracks and chips in the driver’s eye line need either repairing (if possible) or perhaps even a full screen replacement.
Are the brakes squeaking, squealing or grinding. These are all signs that brake pads or discs need replacing.
Does the car stop in a straight line?
Does the handbrake function properly? Park on a hill and check it does not roll. Be prepared to brake if it does.
Speak to our advisors if you need a brake issue pre checking.
